I am looking at a 2003 H2. It had to get some things serviced before it came up for sale. The door rubbers had fallen off, and I had to bring it to the dealer's attention. Also, it needed a new control module for the rear suspension (back was down a few inches). The truck only has 15000 miles on it, and I have concerns about other things going wrong with it so soon.

I have to test drive it soon, and need to know what else to look for before I make the deal. The truck is in excellent condition, but I have reservations about it. I might just wait longer for the right H2 to come along. I always have reservations about a vehicle that is in it's first year or production as well.

I also don't like the price they are asking for it either. They want $572000 CAD for it, and will not budge. I can get a 2004 for less then that, although the mileage will be higher.

Should I even bother looking at his thing any further? If so, what else should I look for that a test drive might not turn up. I know it has a warrenty, but who wants the truck in the shop, and then has to0p drive a crappy loaner.

Thanks in advance.

I think that is a bit steep for a 2003. I'd think you could get a brand new one for around the same.

I bought my 2003 H2 Used for about $42,000 with about 28,000 miles on it.

Just my 2 Cents

Actually new ones in Canada go from $75000-$88000, plus tax.

Not that is matters for much, but my theory on used vehicles is similar to the consevation of momentium.
If the vehicle has few problems, it will continue that way until some external force changes that. (abuse/poor maintainance, etc..)
If a vehicle has problems, it too will continue to have problems until... (this is much harder to change due to the uphill nature of the task)
look for another one

I totally get what you are saying. I think I will pass. I did really like it, but there will be another right around the corner...

I've had an 03 since october of last year, and have n't had any real issues. Any issues that I did have were already covered with TSB's or recalls...I did have the door molding loose, but they just secured those with no problems.... I just have one more thing to take care of before the warranty runs out - clunking felt through the steering wheel...

The issues you brought up are warranted.

Diana,

I wouldn't be too concerned about it being the first model year. You'll find that the 04s and 05s have their quirks as well, so it seems like GM has introduced a new problem or 2 every model year.

I was VERY hesitant to buy an 03 because of the newness, but caved in. I have not regretted it. I have had some problems with it:
* windshield molding coming loose
* door rubber loose on passenger side
* excessive pinging from muffler
* AC blowing hot air
* AC being noisy
* wipers refusing to return to intermittent once on high
* problems getting a full tank of gas

These were all covered in TSBs, meaning that GM recognized these as problems and had a solution for them - all covered under warranty. None of them were dangerous, just annoying at times. And they're not restricted to just the 03 model year - and they won't effect every 03.

Chances are, if the truck you're looking at had issues, they were fixed by the previous owner. If not, you have this board as a source for solutions. As much trouble as my H2 gave me (most of the probs occurred in the first 9 months), I wouldn't have traded it for absolutely anything.

I know I will have a warrenty, but I just bwant a good vehicle and no grief. A few years back, I bought a ZR2 Blazer. That ting was under warrenty, but just the endless frustration and problems drove me crazy. It creaked and squeaked, and the tire carrier rattled. I could talk all day about the problems I had with it. Plus I always got a car as a loaner, bot another SUV of course.

My Tahoe that I have now has 225000 miles on it, and it is tight and stable. It is an awesome truck. Then of course there are people that hate their Tahoes and they don't even have 1/3 of the mileage I have.

I think I'll go test drive this marroon unit, but think I will wait. They want way too much money for it, no matter what the mileage is. I wonder if it has low mileage because they did not like it. SOmetimes mileage is not a bad thing. My truck has plenty, but it has been enjoyed and maintained. It will be on the road probably for another 100000 miles or more.

It's covered under warranty. There is a TSB out that discusses clunking in the steering wheel. I notice it when going over speed bumps, or traveling down a bumpy road...

Come to think of it, when I back out of the driveway (it's on a downhill slope) I get a small popping/clunking sound coming from the rear left wheel area. I always figured it was just sloshing in the gas tank, but it happens no matter how much gas I have in...would it be a loose leaf spring or something? Anyone have ideas?

Diana: You might want to check out Roy Foss Hummer here. According to their website they are selling '06 H2 SUV/SUT's at $68,500CAN. They are in Toronto, but for that price it might be worth the trip.

Thanks RazM. I will look into it. I am just going to take my time with this. That is a lot of money to spend to end up with buyer's remorse.
