Sledgehammer, where did you get the information that the air inlet comes it via the air intake housing-Non Functional (GM's name for that part)?
I did some research today, basically tearing the front left fender off, and removing that fake air intake, and that is not what I came up with.
The air intake comes in through the wheel well, you can see where the outer hose to the air filter housing goes into the fender well. If you pull the fake air filter thing off the hood, there are holes in the outer edge (both sides the same), but no place for the air to go once entering. It sits on a metal brace.
I'm checking now, but someone mentioned this could be for heat exit from the engine compartment, but this is not verified, or they could be plain old drain hoses.
Regardless, I see no way air entering this non-functional device could supply air to the air filter housing. Possibly I'm missing something, but this was a saleable vehicle.
