I've read some internet chatter that head units can be programmed for "Lux" or "Premium" with a Tech2 tool and a custom program from GM. Could be. I'm not a GM Tech (I only play one on the internet). There are some techs here that could confirm this.
The quality of sound is based on the amp, not the head unit. The "Lux" system has a better DSP in the amp.
