The dude next to you was probably just jealous that his ride wasn't as sweet as yours. We do have to also consider that with all of the windows up there isn't much light in the cabin and it can be hard to see what people are doing (waving? Giving you the middle finger? We don't know, we are just happy to have response when we "give the love" to fellow HUMMER owners. You've also got to understand that a fair amount of other HUMMER drivers who aren't HUMMER enthusiasts (a driver and enthusiast are not the even the same animal) don't share the same feeling of brotherhood that we all do.
