I want to put the spare tire on the rear of the roof just while off-roading. Anybody have any ideas? Right now I am planning on putting a rubber pad on the roof and strapping the tire down somehow to the roof rails and the rear cross rail. Also thought about getting a couple of the new accessory roof rail handles shown in the 04 accessory catalog.

Not sure how far you want to go with this but I design and fabricate custom equipment for the Hummers so a "mini roof tire rack" is possible if you so desire. If not I definitely would not place the tire directly on the roof for it will bend, purchasing a third cross bar and mounting a tie down point would be your cheapest and quickest.

And just for the record SMA used to have the best spare tire carrier on the market. Give me a shout I have already come up with some simple very effective ideas.
