Keep an eye out for a new topic regarding chrome over aluminum. But very briefly, chrome is brittle and thin and therefore will not flex or bend with the aluminum which is a relatively soft metal. So if dented, cracking and flaking is immediate. The cost of doing a revision on chrome is very expensive because there is no such thing as a "touch up" with chrome....it's "all or none". The above pictured skid plate was about to be replaced with a new, unpolished one for the cost of 350$ (at least, that is what my dealer wanted to charge me). Instead it was repaired and polished to a mirror finish for about half the price of the new one. I hear some dealers are charging 500$ for a chrome exchange. In my next topic, I will go into depth why I feel polishing is better than chrome on aluminum (p.s. I started out in the chrome plating industry)
