Anyone installed this Throttle body bypass kit and had any luck with it? I understand the principle behind it and am curious if it worth the money to do... Thanks

What price did you see for the throttle body bypass kit.

I am curious because the same part for my corvette costs $20.

I could not tell you if it works because I did not install one on the vette.

I have stopped buying things for the vette because I am waiting to see what the new vette looks like. If I don't like the new one I am going to heavily modify my 2000 C5.

All the vette power up grade packages, from all suppiers, include the bypass kit.

I posted this in another thread. I did this mod on my vette. I didn't feel a thing. In theory it makes sense.

You can make your own kit for much less with a couple of parts from a local hardware store.

Ya that is what I was thinking, I understand why it is suppose to work, but have not talked to anyone that has done this. So I was curious, well thanks and I will get the necessary hardware and see if it does...

I installed the TB bypass kit when I tossed on my new TB. You aren't going to feel anything, unless you can amazingly feel a 2HP increase Takes just a minute to install, not really worth it IMHO but I got it with the Stage 2B.

H2 Daddy - The new vettes look the same basically, except for the Z16. You should just heavily modify you're C5! When you say heavily...do you mean supercharger....or TT possibly? I'm going to TT my Z later this year I'm hoping.

Grim,
I think H2 Daddy is referring the the C6 being released next year. Rumor is the C6 Z06 will not be released until a later date, maybe 2 years later. I'm too a big fan of the Z and bought the first one in Jax in 2000. Best vette I ever bought.

I couldn't feel any difference in power with the TB bypass installed either, but 2-5 hp here and there can add up.

Badrap - yes it does work like we have said, but no you're not going to feel the gain. It does do what it's supposed to do though.

Buddy - I thought of that right after I posted. I think they're going to look good, I have good faith in GM And yes, Z's rule!

Before you go making modifications, just remember why the throttle body is heated in the first place. When there is a pressure drop, cooling takes place. If you are dealing with cold, damp air to begin with, it is likely that it will freeze up the throttle body. Keep in mind that you are working with a drive-by-wire throttle body - There is NO direct cable from the accelerator pedal to the throttle body. So, if the throttle body freezes, you are relying on the little electric servo-motor on the throttle body to be strong enough to break the ice. You too can be on the news with an unattended acceleration accident.

New cars no longer have warm-up tubes from the exhaust manifolds to the air cleaners to prevent icing. The heated throttle body is the replacement.

Of course, if you live in a nice warm, dry climate and never intend to travel to or drive in wintry weather - You have nothing to worry about.

Klaus,

You are right on the money. Not a good mod if you live in an area with harsh winter freezes.
You'd have to store the H2 in the winter like the vette guys do, or remove the by-pass. Just another hassle for too little power. And wasn't the H2 designed as an all terrain, all weather vehicle?

I was thinking of supercharging my C5.

The drawings of the next C6 in MotorTrend a couple of months ago were not very flattering.

It had a nose like the last Camaro.

H2Daddy:

I just finished getting an S/C installed in my vette as well as heads and cam, LT headers, etc. Just dynoed at 570 RWHP. The Z06's with a similar setup are getting well over 600 HP at the wheels.

Drop me an email if you want to chat about this stuff.

Lil Devil
I read your post and I would like to talk with you about performance additions to the C5. I will be gone to the US Open for a few days, so I will e-mail when I get back.
