I have recently made four single day 450 mile trips, to my surprise the H2 is great for the extended drive. I am older 59 an a big guy and in many cars or trucks my knees give me problems after i drive 200 miles or so. My wife has a 02 ML55 AMG and in that my knees kill me to the point I have to pull over. The H2 steers great, very little input required to stay in your lane, it eats up tar strips and small bumps, it rides more like a medium size RV then a truck or car. The thing is a great highway machine and rides a lot better then expected, even back seat passengers have given thumbs up on the ride. I expected a harsh truck like ride an poor cornering ability, not so the thing likes corners, I took it on a small oval dirt track and found it felt good and flat while power sliding and it had very little lean. I now have driven near 5000 miles and must say I think this is a winner. PS I am the guy who dumped a 03 M-3 convert with 800 miles because I did not like the performance, so me liking something a lot is not the norm.

John,

I agree...I traded in my Jeep TJ for the H2. The TJ was just too small and impractical for me.

The H2 was a move up in many areas and I'm glad I did. You get used to the steering in just a few miles and it behaves like a much smaller vehicle.

Enjoy...

Im going to have to jump on the band wagon here too! I "dumped" an 03' Landrover Discovery HSE for my 04' H2 and have been happy ever since. Cant wait for the next road trip.

Ditto. I have gotten the opportunity to drive between Dallas and Houston a few times on my H2 as of late and the 270 mile trek has been somewhat of a pleasure actually.

Plenty of room to move around. Great visibility above and beyond what others see ahead of them. People are scared ****less of the huge black box movie up behind them at 82 miles an hour and get the hell out of your way.

If is funny, I have made that drive in many other vehicles and my hummer gets me home from grandma's in about 3 hours and 30 minutes if I do it late as night when the traffic is thin.

Gas mileage blows goats, but hey, we knew that when we bought the things.

JohnD,
I must agree with you totally. After several 6 hour round trips to Chicago and St. Louis, I was absolutely impressed with the road mannors that such an off-road bad-boy vehicle could posess. Due to my enjoyment of the H2, I decided to take it on a cross-country trip this last summer from IL to UT, and checking out some off-the-route Colorado geographical eye-candy on the way. Nothing to report but dependable, plush, and capable. I've got more than 21,k miles on my rig now, and have never had a problem with it. If my ride were lost or stolen, I'd have no hesitation to pick up another white H2. And with my contentment with the '03, I think I'd bypass the '04 if I could find a sweet deal on the '03. I never anticipated that this would be such a capable and pleasant vehicle. It still blows my mind when I hear negative reports of the H2, either in the press or in public. The H2 is like nothing else. Form and function.

I am curious as to some of the advice...why get a '04?? Are there problems that have been fixed in the 04?? I thought it was the same exact hummer as the 03 except for the antenna.

Three changes between the 04 and the 03.

1)Antenna moved from the roof to the side vent
2)Shoulder belt added to the middle rear seat
3)Center of steering wheel changed from "HUMMER" to "H2"

Spike, you forgot the lame nav system that doesn't allow you to listen to CDs while using the nav feature...

I'm curious as how we could find out if there have been certain improvements made on the 04 compared to the 03...i.e., certain common problems that gm would have had repaired on the line.

Great road trip from Dallas to St. Louis! Kept speed to 70 mph. Nice comfortable ride. Better than expected. Will be driving back to Dallas for the Holidays. Snow may be encountered. Hehe!

As far as I know, there is no change in engine, drivetrain, or suspension, hence driveability in the '04.

Perry,
Im not saying there have been great changes from 03 to 04' model, except to say they may have payed abit more attention to squeeks and/or fit finish issues. I have two friends that own 03's, both have been without problems. My only concern would have been with the first few new 03's which were coming off the line as they first ramped up production. Ive had nothing but good say about my experience so far. As far as the Nav not playing CD's, who cares, ill listen to the radio, or add a CD changer, better yet a XM system later.
