I do go offroad quite a bit, no scratches yet. Thats not black paint - it's a powder coat. If I ever get in really nasty stuff I will take the rings off. It only takes about a minute for each ring.

The only complaint I have with these rims is that the black rings inside diameter is smaller than the inside diameter of the rim itself. This makes a little well that gravel gets in. Only had that issue once in deep mud that had a high gravel content (land slide over a dirt road).
