Experiences with Vettes and cold air intakes, did nothing on a dyno. In addition, K&N replacement filters did nothing. The Vortex ram air systems did increase HP, not on a dyno, but you could feel the difference when driving.
The claims from most of these companies has never been really proved; at least not to me and a dozen other guys who have tried them and dyno'ed at the same time.

I can tell you this, if you over oil those type of filters, you will start popping some codes as the MAF sensor gums up and the wire gives an incorrect reading that does not jive with the other engine sensors. GM will not cover this under warranty, and I agree, why should they.

Paper filters do a lot better job of cleaning the intake air, so adding a foam oil filter may make your oil life indicator incorrect. The system has to assume the air intake is sealed with a specified paper type filter. (Foam filters do filter water better.)

People will install these, drive the vehicle and say, "wow" I have more HP. However, I have never, in person, seen this proved on a running dyno; at least on a Vette.

As Viet Nam Vette states, if the General could get better fuel mileage and more HP using this type of filter, you can bet it would be installed, so long as it passed emissions and noise requirements.

The air intake is inside the fender well, so the air entering is not warmed by the engine compartment.
