Did anyone have the dealer correct the wind noise problem? We have it on the 05 SUT and think I read that the issue is usually the "A" pillars. I also thought a read a post that someone had it fixed but it returned.
I'm tempted to just add black RTV along where the plastic trim contacts the glass. I afraid if the dealer is just using double back tape, that here in Florida, with the tremendous heat and humity it wouldn't last.
Thanks

My dealer told me that they are fixing the ones with the problem by sending them to an auto glass shop. The shop takes off the outside plastic cover running down the pillar and reseals.

BTW, I slid a small piece of a toothpick behind mine. Not much, just a sliver. Problem fixed - for now.

Thanks rsv9!
Another idea I had was to get some of that black door edging. You know the stuff that helps keep the paint from getting chip along the edge of car/truck doors. It would help tighten up the gap between the glass and trim.

I just had mine done, finally. My dealer used to use double stick tape under the black moulding surround on the windows (sides and top are both a problem), but that would come loose over time. Now they have a local glass shop urethane the moulding down (i.e. reseal as rvs9 says).

Thanks all!
The glass shop idea sounds much better me. The urethane fix has got to hold much better over time; great for us here in the sunshine state.
Ree, do you think all dealers are on the same page with this fix(tsb recommended by Hummer)or do I have to spell it out to the service dept.
Thanks again everyone!

I have no idea if there's consensus on how to fix it. If I had to guess, I'd say no. My dealer explained to me how they experienced problems with the original tape-based fix. I didn't ask if they were told by GM or if they figured it out on their own. I'd say you're best off asking how they plan to fix it and if they say "tape," then brief them on your own research, in a nice way.

Having been in the bodyshop business for over 20 years, it's typical to have to fix problems like that.
I encountered the same problem. Once I figured out what was wrong, I too took the trim off, cleaned it, retaped it and thought I was done.
It was only until I experienced the problem again that I took a better look at it. Here's what I found.
When you place a strip of two-sided tape on the leading edge, the actual edge curves around a bit. The point is... one layer of tape isn't thick enough. By doubling the thickness (laying two strips on top of each other) it allows the leading edge to stay off the glass enough to allow the tape to bind to the glass.
Glass isn't the bestest material to be sticking two-sided tape to but that's where it goes so...
Just to test my theory, I redid both sides... the driver's side I did with doubling the amount of two-sided tape and the passenger side the single layer like the factory does it.
Well, it's been just over a month and the passenger side needs to be redone and the driver's side is on tight.
Hope that helps,
Mark

Just a thought--if you urethane your side moldings, won't you have to replace them when your windshield gets replaced?(which it will)

I asked my service writer this same question. He says that the urethane can be removed cleanly with heat by a decent glass shop. Is he right? We'll see some day.

Yup, removing urethane on glass isn't bad. Nothing more than a sharp razor blade...
