Air Horns, How Loud???

I have considered purchasing the air horn kit from Realwheelsacc.com, but want to make sure they are loud enough. I have seen ads for other aftermarket horns that change the tone, but aren't very loud. The H2 deserves a much bigger sound than what it comes with. Does anyone have a suggestion, or have they heard the RealWheels set-up in person? Also don't want an install nightmare!!!

I have the Realwheels Air Horns and they are loud. It was an easy install and seems like a nice setup.

i have a set of wolo horns.... with a hadley compressor and tank... very loud...especially when mounted 8 feet in the air!!! look sweet too..

What is the tone of your horns? Does it have that trumpet-y sound, or is it more like an 18 wheeler or firetruck?

I'd like to get them someday, but not if they sound like trumpets.

sounds just like an 18 wheeler's.

Install was drilling one 1/2 inch hole and using one factory hole, the only problem would be if you want the compressor only hot when the key is on, or a toggle to switch back and forth between you factory horns (I diddnt) then it might be a trick getting thru the firewall with the wires.

my wolo horns are perfect. they are more 18 wheeler.. the key to that is that there are dual horns. A single horn would sound like a marine horn. the deeper the sound... the longer the horn... that is plain and simple. a short horn setup will cause a trumpet like sound. mount the longest horn possible. the loudness or decibels is purely a function of how much air you have going through the horn.. that is a function of the width of tubing and what if you use an air storage tank. horns that are run straight from a compressor are slightly delayed and they are not as loud.

My setup....

compressor underneath the hood. wired to a 14 inch air tank in the rear of the car (you could put the compressor in the rear if you wanted i dont remember why I did it this way) from there, there are three air lines out of the tank. 2 of them goto front and rear air quick disconnects. the other goes to the lanyard valve in my overhead console. from there, the airline goes the the roof mounted dual airhorns.

Thanks for the info guys. Years ago I had a friend that had these plastic JC Whitney air horns in his Vega that sounded like Mexican trumpets. That's what I DONT want!

The kid got rid of them and bought a setup that had 6 plastic horns that played Dixie just like the Dukes of Hazzard car. Wonder what ever happened to that kid.....

i have the model 805... the sound online is a bit ****ty of quality... i would not recommend their compressor...it is bulky and hard to find a good place for... I got my compressor from component parts. it is a hadley compressor

I intend to get some air horns, but I was worried about the mounting area I'd need to try and find under the hood. For such a large vehicle, you'd think there would be plenty of room. Nope.
Reading through these posts have given me a little more confidence in that a place under the hood can be found.

What I have in mind for the air horns though, is something that sounds like they would be real "tacky" it is referred to as a Turkey horn. I had something like these many years ago, and they were very attention getting! When I bought something referred to as "the European Police sound" that is what I expected. However once I got those horns it wasn't the long "faaaaa-laaaaa faaaaa-laaaaa" but instead a "fa-la fa-la fa-la"
At first I HATED it, but later realized you really don't want a long drawn out "faaaaa-laaaaa" since you seldom ever really want to be on the horn that long. So the quicker "fa-la fa-la" was much better.

PLUS! I noticed a connection on the (immediate draw) air compressor. There was no instructions that mentioned what that extra electrical post did. I tried it. what happened was that BOTH HORNS then sounded at the same time, making a really great, loud, sound! Not the fa-la - just a loud dual note blast.

I loved that horn. But alas, that car is now long gone (I should have removed the horns, darn it). Since then I have found the Wolo Model 410 Wobbler Wild Turkey horn. Wolo

I hope the actual horn sound is MUCH different than what is on ChuckE's sound byte. I debated for a long time before I decided on the RealWheels horn and I have not been disappointed. The horn is loud and gets attention whenever I use it. Folks that know I have it installed give me the trucker air horn sign just so I'll honk. The installation, as has already been mentioned, is a snap and there is adequate room in the engine compartment for the compressor/air horn combo. The only problem I've had with it is that it wakes up the whole neighborhood when I accidentally hit the panic alarm on my key fob!
