If the broadsider has their belts on and have airbags, and the broadsided gets nailed on the side of the vehicle they are in, odds favor the broadsider to walk.
A hell of a lot more metal and crunch zones to absorb the energy from the collision in the front of the vehicle than on the side of the vehicle.
