There are generally 2 parts in your auto insurance. Liability and Comprehensive. To lower the deductable on Liability is quite expensive, but on the Comprehesive part it only costs a few dollars to $15 premium per 6 months to lower the deductable from $500 to $50, which covers damages such as windshield or when you are parked. It is also common that the insurance company or agents act stupid about this when asked, you must persist. Important to specify "Comprehesive." I went through that, managed to lowered comprehesive deductable from $500 to $50 @ $12 extra premium(6 months), only after I got angry at the agent. The switch came in handy few months later when my parked Jaguar paint was badly damaged ($4K) during a heavy storm.
