North Korea...
http://www.boeing.com/defense-space/military/abl/
wish we had those in service right now. Be a good time to test them out
and does anyone know if our battleships currently have the technology to intercept missles or do we rely on our Missle Defense System only?

Re: North Korea...
Current line of thought is that, no, it is not up to operational status, that is, it is still in the 'testing' phase...
That is the public consumption line...
Now think about that, do you really think the military is going to announce that it can successfully intercept ICBM's? No, they are going to say that tests are still going on, that reliabilty of intercept is low at the current level of testing, and the Democrats think its a waste of money and should be scrapped.
Misdirection at its finest.

We have one and just one that I know of.
It's not a big secret either, so there's no telling what other capabilities we have, although I could make educated guesses.
All of our Naval assets have levels of perimeter protection with hard-kill and soft-kill ASMDS that might have some capability on longer range missiles fired or flying within their theater of operations.

We have no floating, commisioned battleships. Only battleship that was never decommissioned was the USS Arizona.
But, what about the Ticonderoga-class cruisers?

I think he was using the term loosely.
We have several Destroyers and Cruisers equipped with Aegis that could be used to down missiles tracking land based targets. Aegis is multi-mission capable and I would think it's technologically possible for it to track and take out a Ballistic Missile.

Re: North Korea...
Yes, I was just a smart a** today. Besides, one of my best friends is a self-made Navel Historian (I think he actually served with John Paul Jones ), and he uses that fact about the Arizona on many people as a trivia question.
Now to pose a different question. Is this idiot in N. Korea dumb enough to launch one or two missiles at us, knowing we would (hopefully), launch a couple hundred at him a few minutes later?
Would we launch at N. Korea, even if we shot them out of the air?
Then the question has to be asked, can he actually hit what he is aiming at?

Re: North Korea...
Right now Kim Jong Il (KJI) is just pissed off because we have been paying attention to Iran. Not only have we been paying attention to Iran we have been offering them deals to play nicely. This is something we have not done with NK in a while. Everytime that KJI feels that not enough attention is being paid to him, he will break out and throw massive temper tanterums (current situation included). Also, the NK econmoy sucks and KJI is losing support throughout the country. He has to do something to show that he is still the supreme ruler of the country.
As for the defense of the country do not worry, we have enough stuff in our arsenal to protect ourselves.

I don't think that's necessarily true. I think he's pissed because no one talks about his coiffure anymore.

I don't think we'll launch anything, what will probably occur is the missile would be tracked for information unless its trajectory is provacative. Our intelligence analysts would love to have the accuracy data, stage detachment, and other targeting information that would be derived from the observation.
I would guess that the NoDong is just a glorified SCUD, with some guidance improvements.
