Is it possible that the breather hose to the K&N tube is blocked or pinched? This hose is part of the PCV system that flushes fresh air though the engine and pulls the vapors into the intake to be burned as part of the combustion. If the breather hose is blocked a vacuum can be pulled and may impact the valvetrain lubrication.

Hard to kink the hose from the breather to the PCV orifice if just changing the air filter by lifting off the air filter box lid.
However, just remove the return hose from the camcover to the resonator and see if it is filled with dripping oil.
