Default I have a problem - any suggestions

I thought I would post this here as well - I dont think anyone ever looks at the H1 section, I know its not an H2 but it is my truck so any help or suggetsions would be appreciated.

" Buggar - OK last night I was driving home - about a street away from my house I started to notice a knocking sound when I took my foot off the throttle - as soon as I put my foot back on it went away. 30 seconds later BANG and no drive - I moved it from H to HL and could move - slowly still with the knocking sound - luckily I only had to travel half a block where the truck is now languishing in my driveway awaiting mechanical assistance tomorrow.

This came out of the blue - no previous indication - no transmission slippage - no leaking fluids - nothing.

Any suggestions as to what I can tell them that the problem may be would be appreciated - so as not to make me look like a muppet when it comes to mechanics - which I am.

It is a 97 6.5TD with 52000 miles on it.

Thanks guys. "

I would try to post something, but my little lap dog Alec would only post an Owned pic here and say something stupid to ruin another thread.

I do fight back with AEs. Apparently you're too dumb to realize it.

It's likely a Broken T-Case chain.

Easy check - pull the front driveshaft off. Make sure you don't lose all of the caps from the U-Joint. Run the truck. The truck should run perfectly fine in HL. It should take you about 20 minutes at most to pull the driveshaft off.

Also make sure that the housing is intact. Broken chains at speed tend to knock huge holes in the TCase housing.

Andy,
Drain your diffs (one at a time) and sweep the fluid with a magnet. If you find tons of metal in one it could possibly be that. Also to check for that pesky vampire problem, pull the top (key word there) plug of the the T-case. If you get fluid gushing out its the vampire. I do agree with steve though, sounds like a bad T-case. ClarkeF on Humvee.net was selling one last I knew. I believe it was new or refurbished by Lynch HUMMER. I would hop up over on the HML and send him a PM if I were you. I believe he was letting it go CHEAP.
