I've had better luck on those type of repairs with epoxy putty. Comes in a round plastic tube with a round stick of putty inside. You break off a piece and knead it until it becomes a uniform color and then press it into place. It dries hard as a rock and sticks to most metals. Also sold for fuel tank repair and can be found at most auto parts stores.
