Ignition power wire issue

May I ask what you are talking about? What red wire, what head units?

I'm talking about the ACC wire that goes hot when the ignition is switched on. The same hot wire that stays hot for x number of minutes after the ignition is switched off until you open the door. The head units would be any after market head unit, in my case I've had Pioneer, JVC and Jensen.

I think I found my problem. When I spliced two of the purple wires together on the vehicle harness, I think I used a splice connector that was too big for the wires and was not getting a proper connection. Only time will tell but I've got a good feeling about it. Thanks.

I guess what confused me is the ACC wire and the thought of one going to the factory head unit. There is no red ACC wire. The radio is not on the RAP circuit. The BCM directly controls the On/Off of the radio, and the power to the radio is supplied by an Orange B+ wire.

Not sure what the class 2 wires would do, since the aftermarket radio does not require the class 2 signals. Usually, the splicing of the class 2 is to allow the serial data to flow from the Onstar and XM modules.

But, if you fixed it...cool.

When connecting why not pig tail and solder or use wire nuts. They are usually better unless in a marine environment...

When complete a little electrical tape and sometimes a tie wrap to hold it all up and your good to go.
