Try disengaging 4hi lock when going straight and on a dirt road.
Sometimes the stress from front and rear can build up and not allow disengagement.
It used to happen on manual 4x4's with locking hubs so bad thet you had to back up to **** out of 4x4 high range.

also check that buttons are not sticking in the in position my hi loc button was sticking in the in position and would not let other buttons engage . i was able to grip sides of button with finger nails and pull out then other buttons were fine . took to dealer and they fixed the sticky button

Try working it and listening in a quiet area. You should hear the transfer case switching gears. If you dont its a contact problem on your console.

yep I pressed the onstar button and after 15 minutes they had me backup turning right for about 60 ft and bingo you come out of 4-HI  weird but it worked... hope you can turn right going backwards when it locks.. its also in the manual so they say never looked...
