Blew up my engine :)
So I was coming back from a deployment across country and was wondering why I was getting such lousy gas mileage. I turned the Hummie into Moore Hummer up here in Dulles and they came back and said I cracked the head. Since it was still covered under warranty they rebuilt the engine, new head, new something else? yeah I am not a mechanic. My gas mileage doubled since then, they even fixed the rattle in the rear passenger door.
I purchased my H3 and the wife?s CTS from there and they are the best. They even gave me a SUV while they fixed my Hummie which took about 4 days. They said that they have seen that a lot on the first Hummers coming off the line that had weak heads and if the consumers where rough on them they would crack. Anyone else run into this problem yet?

Not saying a head can't crack, but that is not a problem. The major problem is on early 3.5Ls, intake valve guides wear in an oblong fasion (usually #1 cylinder, but can be any). Causes rough idle, drop in MPG, and should turn on the check engine light and the computer will have some codes; denoting backfires detected.
Regardless, glad to hear it was fixed in four days and everything is ok now.

Re: Blew up my engine :)
f5fstop, yeah the engine never ran rough or rattled. The only thing I noticed was the low mpg. and of course the engine light came on twice during the 2.5k treck. I did call onstar while driving and they ran diag on it and came back with nothing. I think it was the head, but when I get back to the states next week I can look at the paperwork and make sure that was what they replaced.

Re: Blew up my engine :)
I'm not saying they didn't replace the head; chances are they did. I'm just saying (as I said in another post), the head wasn't cracked it had abnormal wear in the valve guides.
