By law you can call any skin of any animal leather ,so they can take water buffalo and use cheap paint or dye and call it leather GM is notorious for useing cheap hides. if you want the best (first cut cow hide ) try Katskins and redo them after the warentee . I would make them fix what you have under warentee .you should be able to get all the seats don with the good stuff for $1500.00 if you are unable to live with the factory stuff . NO MATTER IF YOUR RICH OR POOR IT'S NICE TO HAVE MONEY .

I've got almost 90K on my H2 now, and the leather is still in pretty nice shape. So I'm sorry to hear yours has given you problems. I do notice that my padding is starting to compact though. The driver's seat is not as comfortable as it used to be.

I hear ya man. I had to have mine replaced by the dealer. They were actually pretty cool about it, but I found out they replaced it with OEM crap and it's already starting to crack again. At 3k I had to have them replace it the first time. My was flaking and cracking just like yours. Now at 30k on my 05 I'm having issues again with the seats they replaced. I'm going to have it out again with them next time I'm in for service.

Here are some pics after they fixed it.

I've seen some with no issues and some that look 10 years old after the first month of ownership. I wonder what the difference is.

I would assume they are different types (kinds) of leather.

Maybe but I don't see why there would be a difference within the same year.

Supply. I assume GM uses one supplier, but that supplier no doubt buys batches from different producers at auction/market and some maybe just aren't as good as others. Or one hide in the batch is from an older animal or wasn't finished right... Those are my best guesses.

as you are near the end of your warranty, ask them about extending coverage for you seats since you seem to have a repeat issue..

So far I have gotten the whole back seat replaced. The backs of both front seats are on order. I've been working with the Dew Service Mgr and now Hummer Customer Service to get the bottom cushions replaced. Have another phone call tomorrow with Hummer customer service. Hopefully all will go well. Even the service mgr wants to replace the bottom but says he needs the regional Hummer reps ok.

I guess skin just gets old and crackley in Florida.

That is really weird, especially because the truck is so new.

Anything unusual about how you keep it, like parking it in the sun all the time or leaving windows open? (not that it is your fault but just curious.)

Perhaps a pet gator or travelling with a fesnyng of ferrets?

Well, other than my pet gator getting the back seat wet occasionally, I do park outside all the time. The garage is full of my wifes s*$t and kids toys. I do have 20% tint on my front windows as well as a strip on the front windshield, so that helps keep the direct sunlight out. I keep the sunroof top closed as well. Doesn't get direct sunlight very often, only when I'm cruising with the windows all open, which is any time I'm driving in town. I love the open air of the SUT!!

Oh yeah with the back window open.....Ahhhh.

And 20% tint is pretty dark right? You guys can go really dark down there. So nothing weird then.

No chance you bought a Katrina special? Anything else acting up?

I would ask them to replace the leather. Nicely but firmly tell them the situation, even if they know, just go over it again and tell them how you would like it to be handled.
