Also could be a problem with a loose connector at the back of the cluster. Not uncommon. You can pull the cluster trim panel off, by just pulling it back. Then remove the four screws holding in the cluster and check that the connector is seated correctly. Or, take it to the dealer.

The exact same thing happened to me today. I am using a loaner pcm from pcmforless and I thought it was something associated with that. I left work and was driving on the highway and looked down to see how fast I was going and I was going '0'. Then I noticed nothing was working but the truck was driving fine. So I kept going and had to switch lanes, when I turned the signal on, everything came back to life and the battery light stayed on. I got to where I was going and left the truck, when I came back it worked and the battery light was off. I guess when I go back for my first oil change I'll have them look at it.
