When I used to use shields
I used painters blue tape. I left it on for over 4 weeks while I cruised up and down the right coast. Even left it on while I was in South Florida for two weeks.
Downside - once it gets wet, it comes off. No residue. Painters tape is available everywhere.
Ken's tape is very good. Heavy duty with no residue.
