How can you be a vegetarian and get so fat?

I'm thinking about becoming a vegetarian, but I'm concerned about ballooning up like Tower.

Also, even as a vegetarian I'm going to make exceptions for cheesburgers, pepperoni, bratwurst, steak, and few other favorites.
