Hummer Brand being Discontinued??
Not trying to start any rumors, but has anybody else heard this? According to an article on Yahoo Finance, Rick Wagoner is claiming that the Hummer brand may be discontinued along with the closing down of 4 truck and SUV plants in North America. http://biz.yahoo.com/ap/080603/gm_sh...ders.html?.v=5

Re: Hummer Brand being Discontinued??
Yup, just came across this speculation as well...
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/24947044
General Motors said Tuesday it will close four truck and SUV plants in the U.S., Canada and Mexico as surging fuel prices hasten a dramatic shift to smaller vehicles
CEO Rick Wagoner said before the automaker's annual meeting it will cease production at a full-size pickup factory in Oshawa, Ontario. It also will stop making SUVs at factories in Moraine, Ohio, and Janesville, Wis., and it will stop making mid-size pickups in Toluca, Mexico.
He also said the Hummer brand may be discontinued.
But he doesnt mention Lousiana - where the 3 is built .

Re: Hummer Brand being Discontinued??
Just read the MSN article as well. I sure hope this is not true. Can't imagine with the H3T, possible changes to H3 drivetrain and the HX Concept they would just do away with the whole brand.

Re: Hummer Brand being Discontinued??
Well on CNN their aticle said GM is looking into selling the brand which would make more economic sense after they just invested in tooling up for the H3T and updating the drivetrain to the 3.6V6 for the 2010 H3. The H2 will be discontinued almost sure of that in the next few years. GM will not kill the Hummer brand with all they put into it in just the last couple years. They may sell it which may be as bad as discontinuing Hummer depending who buys it and what they do to Hummer.

Re: Hummer Brand being Discontinued??
No doubt the H2 is history. It is becoming more and more of a luxury to drive a large vehicle, and not enough people will be buying H2's to justify their production.
GM should be able to keep the Hummer line relevant by having a diesel option in the H3/H3T and producing that hybrid HX.

Re: Hummer Brand being Discontinued??
I first heard the news this morning while on a visit to the dealer. I was stopping in to say hello, and pick up some new straight dual wall exhaust tips. I am getting tired of the slanted ones.
Was very suprised to hear the news!
I was told that there is a meeting/ conference this afternoon, with GM, and the dealerships. That can't be good.
Oh well. I guess it will become a collector's car in a few years.
The "1" already is, the "2" was on it's way with the end of production in 2011, and now the "3" will folow suit, and be part of "2". Looks like it will be sooner than later.
I'm glad I got my first model year.

Re: Hummer Brand being Discontinued??
What a bunch of fools, instead of getting the HX to market quicker, they're considering killing the brand.
I thought GM was going to see that offroad vehicles will always be in demand, and take this opportunity to be one of the few companies still selling 4WD's.
If anyone at GM reads this, here's a tip. Smaller, fuel efficient, yet still the most capable offroad machine available. GUESS WHAT, that will equal sales!
Gas prices are an excuse, and there's no way they can rise too much more without destroying the economy. Something will have to give, and it's not going to be the people.

Re: Hummer Brand being Discontinued??
On the Hummer, Wagoner said GM is ?undertaking a strategic review of the Hummer brand, to determine its fit with GM?s evolving product portfolio? in light of changing market conditions.
?At this point, we are considering all options for the Hummer brand... everything from a complete revamp of the product lineup to partial or complete sale of the brand,? he said.

Re: Hummer Brand being Discontinued??
If this is what they are saying publicly, then a decision has already been made privately.
* Rule #1 in administration; Put out a public statement to insure there are no claims that something was done under the table, but in reality the decision was already made. The statement is nothing more than a smoke screen.
My bet is that they discontinue the line.

Re: Hummer Brand being Discontinued??
If they discontinue the Hummer line I guess I'll buy a Jeep JK if Chrysler still makes Jeeps or buy a Toyota?
By the time I need a new truck I wonder if there will be any of the Big 3 left in the USA?

Re: Hummer Brand being Discontinued??
That would be cool if they cancel all together. Our rigs would sit in the market along with other famous 4x4 limited build, limited years, desired rides, ie: Jeep CJ8 Scrambler, Land Rover Defender 90, etc. then again maybe not, considering every soccer mom and mall whor3 in america owns one and they made 50 million of em. nevermind.

Re: Hummer Brand being Discontinued??
