Re: Your Thoughts on the Bailout Bill
From politico.com:
Quote:
With each permutation, the bill has steadily grown in size. Treasury?s initial plan was about three pages long. The House version, which failed, stretched to 110. The Senate substitute now runs over 450 pages. And tucked away in the tax provisions is a landmark health care provision demanding that insurance companies provide coverage for mental health treatment?such as hospitalization?on parity with physical illnesses.
|
This is going to lead to nationalized health care.
New Tax earmarks in Bailout bill
- Film and Television Productions (Sec. 502)
- Wooden Arrows designed for use by children (Sec. 503)
- 6 page package of earmarks for litigants in the 1989 Exxon Valdez incident, Alaska (Sec. 504)
Tax earmark ?extenders? in the bailout bill.
- Virgin Island and Puerto Rican Rum (Section 308)
- American Samoa (Sec. 309)
- Mine Rescue Teams (Sec. 310)
- Mine Safety Equipment (Sec. 311)
- Domestic Production Activities in Puerto Rico (Sec. 312)
- Indian Tribes (Sec. 314, 315)
- Railroads (Sec. 316)
- Auto Racing Tracks (317)
- District of Columbia (Sec. 322)
- Wool Research (Sec. 325)

Re: Your Thoughts on the Bailout Bill
For all the money we'll be paying for this stupid bill they ought to through in national healthcare. This big blunder really makes that seem small in comparison. They should also give each of us a coupon for 25 gallons of gas too.
As for as all the stuffing they're throwing into this........
I hope they all get what they deserve, unemployment.

Re: Your Thoughts on the Bailout Bill
The bailout bill stinks, but according to The Economist (before pork) the bill costs us 6 % of GDP. Without it, they estimate a loss of at least 16% GDP. I guess time will ultimately tell.....

That's only if the money is put back into the economy as they home.
A similar bill was passed in Europe and gues what the banks did, they kept the money to shore up themselves. They didn't lend it.

Re: Your Thoughts on the Bailout Bill
The LAST thing you want is nationalized health care if you give a damn about the standard of care you receive. Just ask anyone in Canada how long they wait for an MRI.
While I understand the consequences if the financial industry isn't propped up, I'd feel a hell of a lot better if those bastards hadn't spent 500K at the resort & spa for their executive retreat last week.
There seems to be no limit to their spending and bonus & severance packages even in the face of financial disaster. It's nothing short of stealing from the taxpayers.

And now these fawkers are asking for 38.7 billion more.
I doubt its to throw a party for all the americans that are saving their fat asses. This crap really needs to stop, let them dismantle AIG and lock the top brass up in a Gulag in Russia.
