Default Anyone got a tip on Painting Stock Chrome Wheels?

I am looking for a cheap change to my truck. I would like to paint the stock chrome plated Wheels with a charcoal paint. I am looking for ideas on how to do it with what paint and with minimal effort. Thanks for your ideas.

When I painted mine I used Dupli-Color wheel paint. I painted them a little over a year ago and they're still holding up well, no chips yet and I do a fair bit of off roading. Be sure to prep the surfaces really well with a fine grit paper for the best results.

I would suggest using a sand or bead blaster to strip the wheels, use a good etching primer and then paint. You may just want to see what some local places would charge to powder coat them as this may hold up best.

Thanks for the tips. Your H2 looks great. Just what I want to do to my Pewter '06. Merry Christmas.

Thanks. Once you black out the wheels you'll start blacking everything out!

Merry Christmas.

I took mine into the powdercoating shop and got them blasted then powdercoated black for $60 a rim. It turned out really nice and has held up great.

Use a red Scotch Brite pad to scuff them up, then prime, abase coat and clear. Just be sure to clean very well before hand.

The guy with the least amount of posts did it the best way....

Seriously, 240 bucks for 4 rims to be powdercoated is the absolute best way of guaranteeing that you won't have problems if the wheels are chrome. If they're just painted, scuff and shoot with a spraybomb.

Good luck.
