I actually repaired it using a wodd dowel rod and some glue, lets see if it holds.
What I really want to know is how this is possible, when they are required to make parts for 10 years???

Actually they are not required to carry parts for ten years. That is a myth. The part is not discontinued, it is on a national back order through GM.

I am going to put a grenade shifter on my H2, so I will have a stock one after I do.
