Re: Wrecked my Hummer yesterday
I 'may' be able to re use my grille. The shop said it is scratched up pretty bad but I plan on having it coated in Line-X to match the rest of my truck. I also ordered a Road Rhino steel winch bumper with PIAA 510 & 1400 lights in the bumper, also coated in Line-X. I'm still on the look out for a decently priced grille (>$100).
Now the bad news, they said my hood is toast. The reinforcements behind the grille are smashed beyond repair. $2300 to order a new one. (
I trust this shop. They have worked on other cars / bikes of mine and I trust them with my old Vette.

Re: Wrecked my Hummer yesterday
Perfect timing, my stubby antenna showed up today from Amazon!! Guess I can sit here & stare at it for the next 2 weeks while cruising in my rental Silverado. :ack:

Re: Wrecked my Hummer yesterday
Here's a close up of her brake light wedged into my headlight.
Sorry. I only had these 2 pisc. I was in lane #2 of a 6 lane interstate or I would've taken more of the other car. They scooped it up & put it on a flatbed w/ traffic whizzing by.
The Hummer is in the shop now for awhile. Maybe they'll let me inside the shop tomorrow & take some 'disassembly' pics.
Funny story: when the ambulance showed up, he came up to my window and said: "Are you ok? Nevermind. Of course you're Ok; you're in a tank! Have a good day"

Re: Wrecked my Hummer yesterday
I'm confused, your hood wires are surrounded by a sleeve, but you have an antenna from an after 04+ truck
I thought they stopped the sleeve stuff in 03, reason being it holds water and can rot the wires and cause them to break.

Re: Wrecked my Hummer yesterday
Hmmm. I didn't know that. It is an '04 for sure, but maybe it's an early production model. It maybe previous owner added it. I know he changed out my mirrors to the newer style.
I planned on using my stock grille & have it sprayed with Line-X as OEM is $590, so if I reuse my old one, I should receive a $590 credit towards my deductible. Right? WRONG. They said they will give me a $200 credit if I reuse my old grille (which needs a little work before being sprayed; missing 2 mounting tabs and a little bulge in the plastic). This doesn't seem quite right. $200 credit to keep my trashed grille. I think I should receive the full $590 since insurance doesn't have to buy one. Geez.

Re: Wrecked my Hummer yesterday
Screw that, I'm sure you could find a use for it one day.
Get the new one, then take it off and put on your other, you could hang it up in your garage, or hold onto it til something happens, or possibly get a good offer on it.
Wait is that the insurance company talking or the person fixing it?
Here, they made the estimate and the money came no matter what I did with it, they shouldn't be able to take away the estimate amount, that sounds more like the body shop talking in my opinion
