Has anyone added a roof basket yet? Any recommendations? I didn't get the crossbows cause I wasn't sure what rack I was going to get, so I'm wondering what others are doing or planning.
Thanks

NO, NO, NO!
YAKIMA is the only way to go. they don't have the towers out yet, but are working on it.
Here's what you need (or what I'm getting).
1- towers. (4)
2- crossbars. (2)
3- load warrior basket w/ extension or mega worrior basket.
4- shovel / ax mount.
5- off-road light mounts (2-4) depending on how many lights you want to install.
6- bike racks. (2) make sure the cross bars are long enough so that you can mount the bike racks on the sides of the basket instead of on top of the basket, this gives you a lot more room in the basket and makes loading your bikes much easier.
7- ski racks.
This is the same set up I had on my 86 4runner and it was awesome. YAKIMA equipment is built to last and fit's together nicely.
Cost? Roughly about $700-$800 for everything listed. Now that money well spent!

I don't have the cross bows either and planning to get the roof basket as well. anyway I found this one and it says the mount "fits into factory rain gutters on the roof of your vehicle, then bolt to your roof basket for a strong connection." No need for the bow....

Haven't added one yet but I am going to! I was looking at this basket I found on ebay the guy said he can custom make one to your size you just take the measurements. He also told me that he can fabricate the mounting bracket because I don't have the roof bars either. I haven't ask him if he could make it out of round tubing because his are square in the pics. But they are supper strong. Check it out
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewIte...ame=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT
He quoted me a price of $535.00 + sh. My measurements were for a basket 90" x 48" and that covered the roof. He also said he would install light mount on the basket.

The thule basket is not as strong as the Yakima load or mega warrior and the Yakima baskets look better on the H3.

Thanks, I built this thinking it would be to tall but the wife insisted on the height. I have not finished with this (ie. no front supports) as of today still getting things in order after running from Rita. I will get back on it in a day or so. Also I have convinced her (you helped) to take about 2 inches off. So we will see how that looks. Thanks again
Oh I don't have the sunroof, every car I ever owned with a sunroof leaked after a while. But if I did own the sunroof I would have added a bar across at the back off the glass so items would not go over the glass. Thanks again

Fliggah-
What rack is that?
My brother put a Surco on his Expedition and took his crossbows off to mount it and it looks like it might work out for the H3, so I may give them a try. </div></BLOCKQUOTE>
It is the Surco Safari Roof Rack and it uses Hummer specific rain gutter mounts to hold the rack in place. if u do get it let me know how it works 'coz I'd rather get this that the bows.
Thanks

Thule MOAB. It fits great and also has the option to purchase an extension making it longer.
I don't know of any racks unless specifically made by GM that would fit without the cross bars. To bad they don't come standard any longer.
I paid $239 for mine on sale.
