Could someone who lives or has lived here in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) please give me some information on driving motor vehicles here? My command has been telling us that it's not at all possible for non-UAE citizens to legally drive here. I just don't buy that, I know from this site that there are one or more H2 owners here who drive their trucks on UAE roads. I see on the internet a UAE 4x4 club that has non-UAE members driving thier trucks on the roads.

Could someone give me the low down on this?

Thanks,

Rory

"In order to drive, UAE residents must obtain a UAE driver's license. Foreign driver's licenses are not recognized, and temporary UAE licenses are no longer issued. However, a non-resident visitor to the UAE can drive if he/she obtains a valid international driver's license issued by the motor vehicle authority of the country whose passport the traveler holds. The UAE recognizes driver's licenses issued by other Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states only if the bearer is driving a vehicle registered to the same GCC state. Under no circumstances should anyone drive without a valid license."

Rory, the UAE is courting American tourists so hard, just drive the darn thing. They'll let you off if you get busted. Oh, don't wear your wonderful, American uniform.

Bastards.

And Thanks.

hey that is complete bull**** !! there are several countries which license can be driven in uae. and anyone can get a uae license with a valid residence visa... and btw there are over 500 registered hummer h2 in dubai alone. and iam a soon-to-be owner of one. i just was in the bank today settling the installment agreement and all.. the services will be done in the chevrolet service center though. 2005 black suv - lux .. back to the point about license and there is a temporary license also and it is still available..

btw american licenses are accepted to drive in the uae without any uae license.
