Stage 5: Update
TEAM DAKAR USA > News > Stage Report
Posted by on Jan 4, 2006, 10:04
Gordon began the day in the same position that he completed yesterday's stage - 119th. He completed the 217 mile special in 4'09" and was the 48th car to cross the finish line meaning he had passed 71 cars on the day. The overall performace with adjusted time was good enough for a 19th place finish on the day which will move the Hummer up in the starting order for tomorrow's stage. Gordon improved his overall classificaton from 69th to 45th.

I was watching OLN today on the Dakar Race, and they said that Gordon lost 4 hours today in the race due to him having to replace a Hub on the back side right tire.

Interesting. That sure doesn't jive with the update I posted [source] . Or maybe it does and my math is bad?
The Dakar web site is equally as confusing. I think Enlish is a third or fourth language for their webmaster.

OLN showed pictures of him working on the back right side of the H3, He had the tire off and it looked like he may have been working on the Hub.
I hope he has a better day Thursday, then he had today.

My old Beetle had a cooler in the front - it looked nothing like the one that this thing has - where the hell do you put the ice.

In stage 6, which took place on Thursday, 1/05/05, the Gordon/Skilton Hummer placed 11th in stage 6 -- 13 minutes 41 seconds behind the leader among all cars (the H2's category). Overall (all stages combined) it is in 27th position, 4 hours, 28 minutes, 36 seconds behind the leader.
Looking at the race by stages, the H2 has generally been in around 11th to 14th place or so. The best it did was stage 3 when it came in 5th place (lifting it to 8th position overall among cars). The worst was the disasterous 4th stage where mechanical problems resulted in a 118th place finish, 3 hours 51 minutes behind the leader.
Experience has alot to do with this type of event, and the 427 H3 is doing a pretty good job for first time (I think) 1-off entrant. My guess is they'll do better as they move up the learning curve.
I recall a couple of years ago one of the entrants got off course, drove over an old land mine that detonated and killed him. The race can be risky in a lot of ways.
Best regards,
George SSSS

Unoffically Team Dakar USA is out of the Dakar Rally. While the team battled overnight to make repairs to the Hummer's clutch and radiator apparently they did not make the ASO's allowed starting time. We will await word from the team for more details.

Couldn't have happened to a nicer guy. Fuk Robby Gordon!

I was hoping the Hummer would do better.
U from Death Valley? No wonder you can't say fuck, you're missing a couple a teeth I bet.
Even last place is better than not finishing!

Don't get your panties in a bunch, I've got nothing against the H3 just Robby Gordon, he is the whiniest little bitch in off-road racing and now NASCAR. He is also the DNF king and every time he doesn’t finish a race it's poetic justice. Unfortunately it was in an H3 this time although the only thing H3 about that rig is the grill.
Have you ever been to Death Valley? I lived in Oregon for over 15 years and let me tell you there are a lot more toothless hillbillies up there than there are down here. Have you been to Prineville, Madras, Redmond, Lapine, Burns, Roseberg, Baker City, Medford, ETC...?
It's beautiful up there but I couldn't stand the rain any longer. I lived in Beaverton, where you from?
