Was it a real VW bug. Either way if it was the new beetle you could have told him it is not a real bug. If it was an original beetle then you could have thanked him for polluting the environment.

Looks like the parts in our H3 are going to start showing up in alot more new GM vehicles. I was looked at pics of some new vehicles coming up and I am seeing alot of our interior parts. Our knobs look like they are going to be standard equip.

I had an additional insert that was in the little zip loc baggy that was in the glove compartment that listed where and what percentage the parts were from that made up the H3. I'll have to go dig it up, unless I tossed it.

The fact is...the Humvee/H1 has some really neat & unique features that make the vehicle design distinct: Gear-driven hubs for crazy-huge clearance down the center & CTIS, which allows the tire pressure to be changed while driving. Along with the width, stance & clearance, these features really define the H1.

Does a vehicle lacking these features mean it can't bear the same name or give rise to the lineage of being a Hummer??? No, they are just different...but with differences come other advantages, improvements and qualities.

For a long time Porsches were mid-engine, air-cooled cars. When the 924 or 928 came out, did the Porsche community go nuts and condemn these models??? No, they are just different.

As Alec pointed out, the H2's and H3's are doing nasty-ass trails and kickin' butt offroad all over the place. Will they ever compare or keep up with a super-built, custom rock-crawler?? No....but then again, that rock-crawler sure as heck won't run you up the freeway at 85 mph in luxurious comfort, with Air conditioning and all the amenities of a Range Rover while carrying 6 adults.

All things considered, these Hummers are AWESOME...and dare I suggest so are the people who own/drive them.

As for those who question the authenticity of our vehicles....they should take a tip from momma, who often said "If you can't say something nice, then shut your F*#king pie hole". I think momma had a different way of putting it, but you get the point.

Thanks HN,

Kinda reminds me of the good old days, long before the troll poachers became the kings of mayhem. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Not too many people outside the auto industry use that phrase "purpose built."
I take it in your figures you are not taking into account the supplier supplied content that GM has outsourced for the H2 and the H3, or the panels on the H3. Just curious.

I got the H3, which is not a real Hummer.

I got a Porsche 996 Turbo, which is not a real 911.

I got a Porsche Boxster, which is not even a real Porsche.

I got sooooooo tired of these "not-a-real-blabla" discussion...

...I've decided to simply show em the finger.

good point

i got a jeep wrangler that "wasn't a real jeep"

i got a BMW 325ci that "wasn't a real BMW"

i got the M3, paid a lot of money, and it "WAS A REAL BMW" ...then i got tired of it

now i have an H3 and you know what? its a badass looking SUV with the best off-road ability off the lot with no mods when compared to other brands.

@bender: Well, I still have all the cars mentioned above... but I simply found out that there is not ONE car, which fits ALL needs. In rainy or bad weather situations, I love to ride a big 4WD truck. Don't know why... but I like the feeling of a comfy and somewhat "protected" ride.

In autumn or spring or on long trips I prefer a fast sportscar... and in summer I miss a cabriolet... so my current config simply serves it all. What I don't need is a standard sedan, because it tries to be everything... and is NOTHING REALLY at the same time.

Before I got my H3, I had a Mercedes M-Class (ML 320) which was a bit quicker, but not as comfy, not as "protective" and not as good looking as the H3 is.

Anyway... I guess I'll go with my 3 car configuration for a long, long time... Simply because it makes me feel like I enter a new world, each time I get into another car.
