Where is the XM factory antenna on the H3? Is it part of the black OnStar antenna assembly on the roof or is it somewhere else?

Someone asked me this the other day and at first I thought it was a bit of a dumb question...then I realized I was even dumber because I didn't know.

On most GM's you have the Onstar antenna and gps antenna on the passenger side. XM is usually a hockey puck looking thing on the drivers side.

I went with an aftermarket unit, Cheaper and smaller antenna. so not sure if GM intergrated into an all in one antenna on the H3.

I was told by the dealer that the XM was integrated with the OnStar antenna. H3s with both only had one antenna on the lot here.

Anyone get a shorter radio antenna yet? I scrape ceilings in parking garages and the entrance into my garage all the time. I need a shorter one.

I don't understand why they couldn't have integrated the AM/FM antenna into either the OnStar or another whip antenna on top. To me the antenna just looks cheap. Just my 2 cents.

Yes.
The wart on the top right hand side is the XM antenna, and the little thingy sticking up is the cellular phone antenna for the OnStar system.
Most of these warts also incorporate the GPS antenna.
Reason it can't be incorporated into one antenna with the AM/FM is due to separation of the signals; and the different type of signals. Almost all vehicles which have cellular communications, XM (or Sirius) never incorporate into a standard AM/FM antenna. There might be one out there, but I have never seen one.
Older systems used a separate wart for XM and another wart for OnStar. Some put the GPS for OnStar in the windshield at the very top. All depends on the OnStar system basically.

I am not sure if this link will show up, but I did run into this on Ebay while checking out H3 stuff. It says it fits and is only 15" tall. I don't know if it works, but you asked for shorter...

By the way, if it does work...please let us all know.

Im confused. SO the XM antenna IS integrated with the onstar antenna? My XM cuts out every once in a while. (Brief pause & hiss) Does this happen to anyone else? I wonder if it's just my location??

Yes, the are incorporated, and yes, XM does cut out depending on where you are.
Under metal like in a service station or a drive-in restaurant, in hilly territory, and for some odd reason, places you would never imagine.
There are two XM satellites, one in the southeast, one in the southwest. In addition, large urban areas have earth based repeaters to cover dropouts in large cities due to tall buildings.
My SCIFI II in my Jeep and my old Audiovox in my Vette dropped out a few times, mostly for reasons noted above, but sometimes for no apparent reason. My H3 XM dropped out a few times in the hilly area of TN. In TN, there was always a mountain between me and the south, so the mountain was probably blocking the signal.

There are also places that for no apparent reason, XM drops out. One in particular is located in Franklin TN. When in TN earlier this year with GM, we had some complaints about factory units dropping out. I got curious and in two days drove both of my vehicles (Jeep and Vette) to this location, and my XM in these vehicles dropped out. No metal structures, no hills, no nothing but air, yet no XM signal. Strange, but no one had an explanation.

Looking at your plate, I believe that is PA, there are mountains in PA, if you are near mountains, you may have drop outs.

Mine does the same at certain spots in town. I recently had a loaner H3 w/XM for a day and I found that it dropped its sat. signal in the very same spots as my H3 does. Nothing to worry about.

Never seen one. I have heard that some XM and many Sirius users have complained that wireless home routers can interfere with the signal.
I can vouch that I have never had any interference with my home SCIFI II XM system and my wireless laptop. In fact, I'm listening ot Deep Tracks while banging away on my wireless laptop.
