How deep of water can the h2 go in, before having to worry about any damgae or problems?

20 inches is spec.
I have wheeled mine through 35 or so and was LUCKY to make it across the swelling creek. I am waiting to see a snorkel rig that looks good for the H2.

it's about 24 inches to the bottom of the front door, I imagine that's one of the reasons they said 20. I've been in 30 to 36 inches (briefly) and no worries. There are all sorts of seals/valves that may not be designed for u-boat missions.
I heard about an H2 that blew the computer in the mud pit here in Gorman and had to be towed out. I think he hit it pretty fast and it can be fairly deep during the winter months.
This guy dove right in with his family. He was lucky somebody was nearby with a winch. When his wife opened the door about 8 inches of water came pouring out.

When you where in 30-36 inches did you take any water in through the door seals?

no water came in (thankfully) but it was just for a few moments -- it was in the same mud hole pictured above. I hit one deep rut and actually dipped the headlight. The pucker factor was high but for god's sake don't stop!! When all was said and done the door sills were caked with mud and goo (triple seal good!) and there was a really cool bath-tub ring around the truck.

On the subject of snorkels...has anybody seen any for the H2? I'm not thinking about it for water fording (just silly, as mentioned by PhilD), but for dusty roads. Changed my air filter after the Sep. White Mountain trip and literally poured dirt out of the filter. I now have a K+N I can clean, but would the air be cleaner a foot or two higher rather than right above the tire? I know it's "sealed" with some weather stripping, but...

Moments afters this man phoned for rescue, I was able to get my H2 to his location and extract him from danger. I was suffering from a high fever that day so this event may or may not have happened.

If you are going to take the H2 (or any vehicle for that matter) in deep water then you need to spend some time waterproofing all of the electrical connections and driveline components. I have specially run diff/tranny/t-case breathers on my vehicle along with a relocated air intake. I can ford water up to 4 feet deep as long as the MT/Rs are biting...

will give you some good ideas on the process.
Not sure on the H2 if the tranny and diffs are sealed or vented, on the H1 they are all sealed or protected in some fashion. Plus, the deisel on the H1 is waterproofed and easily snorkeled.

Not sure about my H2.. But I know a 1970 Bug will float nicely in 50 " of water as long as you do not open the doors.. The trick is to roll down the windows. jump out.. grab the rear bumper and steer it to shore.

I had my H2 stuck in 37" of water. I was high centered on a rut and could not move. Water did penetrate the seals and I had about 5" inside. It took about 1/4 hour to get me out. I did not have any problems with anything important.
Only problems
. sensor under left side pasenger door
. noisy belt
There is a drain plug in the front part of the cab for both guys. Just look at underneeth.
Drtyfn, when are you going to get that winch done?? and what about the front locker????
