We are going to get our first sleet and ice storm here in Dallas on Wednesday. So my question is for all my fellow Hummer owners up in the Northern states, how are our H3's doing up there on the icy roads? Any words of advice to regarding how they handle on the frozen streets. Really interested in your experiences and comments. I have heard alot regarding the H3 off road but nothing in regards to inner city driving on icy roads. We dont get much snow and ice down here so,im very curious. Would love to hear advice ot tips . thanks

Well, we haven't had much here, but did get some ice on the roads last weekend. I wasn't trying TOO hard to break it loose to see what would happen, but I could definitely feel the traction control (or whatever it is called) 'pull' the rig back straight when I was trying to spin it out.

Mind you, I wasn't going fast as I'm pretty conservative on the ice, but it felt more comfortable than either my suburban or my cherokee, so that's good.

On the snow (not too deep, couple inches), it was totally solid, couldn't get it to spin out at all under acceleration. Could brake better than my other rigs, but that might be the ABS (neither the sub or the cherokee have it).

Hope that helps

In Wyoming, we have had some snow and a lot of ice so far. I've driven in winter conditions all my life in a lot of different rigs (from sport cars to mini-vans to Jeeps).

So far I have to say that the H3 has done great. It has shown a lot of traction and good grip in snow and ice. Haven't felt the back end slip on me at all. A couple of weeks ago I was just about the only car that could climb the hill to my house without playing bumper-cars on the way up. It does a damn slight better job than my wife's mini-van that drives like a pig in the snow

On the down side is the fact that it is a very heavy rig, and when its slick it needs to have some space to come to a stop. A lot of people out here think that if they have AWD or 4WD, they can still drive fast and stop on a dime.

In the snow I'm not at all worried about how the H3 handles, I'm much more worried about the idots driving behind me.

We had a little bit of snow last week. The Hummer was amazing in it. Even though the pictures here have the chains on it we drove up the mountain without them.
It was snowing pretty hard so we put them on because it would sit for awhile. It snowed about 2 feet more and we drove down no problem but it was a little scary.

Snow is one thing but Dallas isn't really known for snow but ugly ice. Remember that one Thanksgiving maybe 10 years or so ago?

OK, first realize, it does not matter what you are driving on icy roads, it can be 2 wheel drive or 10-wheel drive; if you drive too fast or irratic for condtions, you will lose it! Anyone driving up here in the Great White North can attest to that. Sorry if it appears I'm talking down to anyone in the upper tier states in the lower 48; no offense meant. For example, my ex wifes ford escort grocery-getter wagon made it through 12 Fairbanks winters without a problem! She drove slow and cautiously, and never got stuck. OK, back to the H3. Here's my observation based on driving in snow and ice and 35 below zero weather the last 2 months: My 2001 Dodge Dakota Quad Cab with Bridgestone Revo's seems to hold the road better. Sad but true. The H3 tends to want to fish tail more turning out onto a roadway whereas the Dakota doesnt. Traction wise in snow, H3 has been great, no complaints yet. Like I said, when it comes to ice, it's more technique than what you drive. Yes, I know studded tires can help, but you still need to know how to handle your vehicle with whatever they're riding on. OK, I'm off teh soap box now!

I'll be out wheeling in it.
My boss fired me two days before Thanksgiving because I mentioned I might have schedule conflicts because of my band that would keep me out of a trial in Laredo, TX...
Anyone know a good law firm looking for help?

Thanks HIHUMMER!
Never worn out - just ready for the next one... Johnny Knoxville was at the bar we played Sunday night in Austin... Crazy... We partied our asses off with the guys in Madlife and sang back-up vocals for each other on the last 2 nights... We're trying to work up a spring tour with them either East coast, West coast or both...

Thanks HIHUMMER and bparker, it's all good...
I've got some gigs lined up with firms that will make ends meet until I find something more permanent. + I am selling some older gear on Ebay (keyboards, samplers, etc)...

Man that really sucks Steve. Do you mind working for attorneys that are out of state? I will pass the word around if you don't.

Thanks HummerNewbie - I'd love to move to Florida, but the commute to jam with my band would be a kick in the ass!!
I won't sell the H3 - I'll move in with friends and save rent cost first... It's all good, I've shot and edited some video work to help make ends meet... I think I'll be full time again by the end of the month...
