Setting the record straight about Hummers:
Since I appear to be the sole target of rage and verbal abuse from Hummer owners, I?d like to put your worries to rest for once and for all.
We all know I dislike Hummers. I have a corner at the cafe dedicated to my feelings. To most, it is would seem obvious why, but for those of you having trouble understanding, let me articulate.
?It?s a watered down (dare I say castrated?) version of a military vehicle driving through the streets of a city. It?s all about big dumb aggression and motorized manliness,? (Neva Chonin, ?Live! Rude! Girl!? San Francisco Chronicle).
?Hummer is the bloated poster child for all that is wrong with America?s attitude towards life, the planet and the environment. They are a hulking, low-grade, environmentally devastating, gas-sucking, oil-belching, horribly designed vehicle that just screams: ?I don?t give a damn about anything or anybody.?? (Mark Morford; San Francisco Chronicle).
Here?s the clincher. Because I have the courage to express my feelings about Hummers, I am automatically the Hummer Scapegoat ? the sole one who is accused when acts of vandalism occur to these bad boys. I know it?s easy to point the finger and think that because of my disdain, I am responsible ... but let?s wake up here, boys and girls! I do not condone violence or vandalism as a method of problem solving for any unfortunate situation. I use words and symbols, even artwork, to convey my feelings. Any acts that caused damage to your vehicles were carried out by other perpetrators who obviously crossed the line in attempting to convey their disapproval at your choice of vehicle.
You can hate me for hating Hummers, but don?t make me the scapegoat.
