Has anyone with the 1 led (instead of 3) above the 3 buttons on their home control universal remote system been able to program it from a remote that uses dip switches?

I'm trying to program my front security gate. The instructions for remotes with dip switches are only listed under the 3 led setup. I tried doing it the only way it says for the 1 led setup, the standard way then the canadian way, no luck.
