So just how much does an 6.0 all aluminum LS2 weigh compared to the 3500? How long is the V8 compared to the I-5?

Good question and that would be nice, but we know it's longer and heavier and it's got to fit in that little H3 engine compartment with a lot of other resulting bigger/beefer stuff. How much, maybe somebody knows or can look it up...

Just wondering because one of the very first things a lot of people do is add almost 200lbs to the front of their H3s with a brush bumper and winch. How'd a V8 be longer? Physically, I think it's very doable, I own both engines. Just eyeballing it, the 6.0 is a compact engine. It's no big block, it's short, not very wide. Heavy? The danged H3's a boat anchor already. Change or torque the bars on it, done.
I keep bringing this up because I drive my H3 a LOT. I live in the mountains. I have to pass people a lot, and I drive from near sea level to 4200' every day. If I were on my own, no other traffic, I don't think it would bug me that bad but I have to torture the little engine to death. My last tank was 15mpg. Our Denali gets that good a mileage. When you read the news about the 3500 they talk about one of the reasons for it being better mileage. That isn't the case at all. Same driver, same route, same habits, the H3 gets worse mileage than an '05 Denali and MUCH worse mileage than an '02 Sierra 4x4. When they resolve this issue, I'll be first in line at trade in day.
Yeah, it's complaining but remember this before any of you tell anyone to quit whining about the engine, unless GM knows it's not good enough, it won't get better, sales will suffer, and they're gonna go away. Our local Hummer dealer is being kept alive by the H3 sales. The H3 gets better mileage than the H2, but that isn't saying much. What's needed is some minor thinkin' here. GM has the engines, they have the H3, put the two together. Exceeding expectations is what sells, not being adequate.
How happy would you be if you had a nice aluminum 6.0 LS2 in your H3? It'd flat haul butt and have gobs of low end torque to boot. Sign me up. </div></BLOCKQUOTE>
Sign me up for the 6.0 too, I will gladly pay the gas bill too

And I hope I live to see that option. GM is a the verge of going bankrupt and the H3 is one of their few current success stories, so I doubt that the 6.0 will be a near term priority. They've got some bigger problems to fix throughout entire divisions.
Obviously the H3 is biased towards offroad capability and the onroad performance/highway efficiency suffers as a result.
