Default architectural diff -2007|2008-

Hey guys,

I am wondering if you guys can clue me in on any architectural differences between the 2007 and 2008 H2, especially the front end where the bumper mounts are located. I have a 2008 H2 SUV and found a SMA bumper valance (for PIAA DRL mounting) that I would like to pick up, but I am unsure if the front end behind the bumper of the 2008 is a match for prior years. I know that the grille is different and that the HUMMER letters are no longer on the slats of the grille but are moved to a piece under the grille on my 2008, thus my concerns about other slight, but significant, mounting and/or alignment differences between the earlier (up to and including 2007) and later (2008 onward) models.

By the way, given that SMA is long gone, what would you value the bumper valance at? It's nigh impossible to find old pricing on these SMA parts, such as the valance and brush guard, so trying to gauge what their new value would be in today's dollars is quite difficult. Would you buy one? What would you pay for it?

Any insight appreciated, as always.

Thanks.

Mike,

Dont waiste your money. The Treehugger is almost done. I May possibly even have pictues tonight/tomorrow morning. It is going to have light tabs on it so you can put whatever lights up front you want.

I hear ya man, I am just looking at a deal (maybe, if I can get a gauge on price) on the SMA valance (steel with cutouts large enough for PIAA 520's) to replace the OEM plastic. This doesn't necessarily change my stance on the brush guard, yet.

Truth be told, I have a brand new SMA 201-103-1 brush guard, still in the box with factory packaging, sitting in my garage right now and have been holding off on the installation to see what Rubber Duck comes up with. Bottom line, I won't be wheeling at Windrock without *something* on the front of my H2. A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush, as it were. If everything works out positively on the Treehugger then someone will get a good deal on a new SMA.

Anyway, on-topic for this thread is whether or not the SMA 201-103-4 front bumper valance will bolt-up to the 2008 front end as it would with earlier years given that there was a grille redesign and I have no reference for comparison to pre-2008.

Well, when I was looking into the WARN winch bumper, I was told they would not fit due to teh changes on front end of 08 and newere. Now, I have seen (pics) of that Warn winch bumper ona n 08...may even have been on this forum...but I cannot find specs on teh front end's frame rails and such.

For what it's worth, I know for a fact you can take an 08 grille, 08 lower grille and it mounts up without issue on the 07 and older SUV's. I also saw an 08 bumper on an 08 SUV on Ebay. So there has to be a way to mount up that DRL shroud from SMA.

I will tell you that I did have the SMA guard on the Desert Sand SUV (06) and it looked mean, but did rattle. On the other side of that, I thought that guard looked bada$$ on there ans was nice that you could flip it forward to clean behind. I know a dealer that has 3 of those left and is selling them cheap as of now. I was offered a price of $300 for the guard and $100 for the SMA DRL shroud about a month ago.

I know I didn;t answer yoour questions, but thought I'd share on what I learned.

I wish I had an answer for you on that valance man If I had to be $$ on it I would venture to say it should fit. If Travis cannot get your treehugger done before windrock (odds are pretty good he is going to run out of time) I can bring my factory BG along and we can bolt it too your truck for the event. The factory one takes literally all of about 5 mintues to mount on the H2. That way you dont have to un package your sma and go through all that mess just for one weekend of use.

Wish I could help you with this one. I'd be happy to take some measurements for you if you tell me what you need.

You really threw me with the subject of this post.

Yeah, in retrospect, a title reflecting the SMA-ness of the topic would have been more apropos. I tried to go back and edit my initial post to change the title to "structural diff -2007|2008-", but the option to edit the title wasn't present. Lesson learned, sorry for the confusion.

Thanks for the offer to take measurements, I may come back at you on that via DM if necessary.

That is extraordinarily disappointing, though unsurprising. Certainly, my expectations were incorrect and have now been fully reset.

Thanks for the offer to loan the OEM guard Eric. While I appreciate the gesture, I don't believe it will be necessary.

Thanks.
