Most people seem to be getting the Auto. I had to special order my 5 speed since my dealer had only 1 (out of 57) on the lot. I take a train to work so i dont drive in that much traffic. If i had to commute to work here on Long Island i would totally get the Auto.

It's pretty difficult to find a standard -- although I know there are a few people one this board who have ordered/purchased them specifically

I went with an auto for two reasons. One city driving, and two off-roading. I have found off-roading easier with an auto.

Thanks for the info, that was what I kinda expected. Is anyone seeing any better performance with the stick as far as getting up to speed a little quicker?? I had a manual Explorer that was like night and day vs the auto.

I agree with F5fstop. With the auto you just sit back like you aer in a tank and roll over stuff its amazing.

Maybe 1 or 2 miles less MPG with the auto(Doesn't sound like a lot but with gas over $3.00 a gallon here) that is a lot.

The standard should have a little better pickup but not so much that you would notice or care. The truck is big so you aren't going to be fast any way you look at it.

Summary : really depends on what kind of driving you are going to do but me with the 12% city roads I don't want to even think about a standard. Some parts of downtown Seattle are like SanFrancisco streets.

Even in the auto it may creep back a little at start off.

I went with the manual...ordered it. The only vehicle I've ever owned with an automatic was a Range Rover,,,because manual was not available.

I like the control of down-shifting for cornering, acceleration,etc...ecspecially w/ this engine size. Many drivers do feel that an automatic is better for off-road though.

I think it' all just personal preference/driving style.

Problem with an auto, at least for me, is when going up a steep hill, you have to ride the clutch, and when riding over large obstacles, you have to ride the clutch; if you don't you tend to jump forward. Thus, you are wearing a part that is not covered under warranty for wear.

5-Speed all the way for me

With the 4:1 reduction in the T-Case and 4.56:1 gears in the axles going up and over things will not be an issue...

Close to ordering an H3
