Ok I have a ? for you guys, the other day I got a pretty good stone chip on the driver side rear fender flare (no pic yet). I put a set of 285 75 R16 BFGoodrich All-Terrian T/A on the truck and they stick out past the fender to begin with, but I just hope this isn't something I have to look forward to. And wondered if anyone else has experienced this problem on or off road.

This is a problem for a lot of driver just not you. Some have even posted "bad design". The mud flaps may help but not sure for your tire size.

I even have a few my self but I don't care. Actually I do care and would love to keep the truck looking good as new but I take it out to much and it gets scratch marks from trees and dirty and rock chips.

I really care with my Z3 but this is totall going to happen to my H3 so I just don't care as much. To me it is meant to get messed up or will happen none the less.

Pickup some 3M clear protective film, make templates with a piece of paper, of the areas that are in harms way (behind the wheel wells, across the front edge of the hood, etc) and apply the film. You cannot see it if applied properly.

I did this on my Shelby Cobra in front of the rear fender flares (common problem area on Cobras) and it works great. It's a very cheap solution that will pay for itself MANY times over the life of the vehicle.

Here's a company that makes precut kits: http://www.clearmask.com/

...but I plan on making my own.

Same size tire as offered on the off-road package. I have the mud flaps installed and it offers some protection. Only about one inch sticks out from the edge of the mud flap, so the flap covers up about two inches of inner tire.
This will help, but when I get back from TN, I will be ordering the rear fender clearmask splash kit mentioned by H3wannabe. It is only $113, but well worth the price.

Yeah, we anticipated the fenders getting hammered. We had clear bra done on the dirrect impact areas on the rear and front flares. Also did the rocker panels. I tired pics, but it really doesn't show.

Not the best photo, but it shoes the mud flaps.

Good photo, looks nice. The chrome package looks great on the white. Are those flaps dealer installed and if not are they easy to install?

Thank you for the compliment.
Dealer installed for a total price of $100.00. They appear to be very easy to install, the front ones appear to attach with existing fender liner screws.

("Not the best photo, but it shoes the mud flaps.") Man, I have to make sure I have my coffee before visiting this site. Must have been thinking about getting my shoes on and head to work.

I picked up a set for $80 at the dealer yesterday and I put them on this morning in about 20 minutes - front and rear. Really easy - just uses a drill and screwdriver. Instructions are easy to follow.

Has anyone with the rocker panel protection put on mud flaps yet? As I recall, they say you can't.

Hey Hummernewbie, I have installed the mudflaps w/my rockerpanels & have no conflict. the ft.mudflap barely touches the rockerpanel, but in no way affecting each other.

When I was at the Hummer Happening in Seattle last week A fine gentlemen shared with me how he had repaired his stone chiped fenders.

He had a body shop, not the dealer, sand down and repaint the fenders flares on both back doors. Cost was around $180. He had a tint shop, AccuTint, put clear protective film on the newly painted flares about $90.

He also put mud flaps on.

I put mudflaps on mine last week, it was easy. Now I have to do the repaint and clear protective film.

I thought the cost was quite reasonable

Just put the splash guards a few minutes ago and they look great. Only took about 20 minutes to complete. Splash guards only cost 78.00 for the full set from Hummer.

You do NOT have to take your tires off. However, you may have to turn your tires to the side a little.
