I have 20,000 miles. I have tromped on the accelerator a couple of times lately, but no "check engine" light came on. Keep us posted.

1BADH2,

It could be the type of GAS you’re using… or your gas cap may be loose… (usually #1 reason for check engine light)

Did you fill up Costco Gas? The check engine light on my past vehicle would always turn on after filling up at Costco. ****ty Gas…

you probably need to reset the computer...just unplug the positive battery terminal for about 10 minutes...then plug it back in..problem solved

Since the gas cap was loose, it will take a few miles for the computer to reset itself... Do not worry, it will do it on its own... No need to rush to the dealer on this one...

PS. Yes, it has happened to me too!

Discofever is right on the money. You can replace the cap with engine on or off but restart the engine and it will go through the diognostics check in the first second.

the light will reset after 3 drive cycles.a drive cycle consists of driving the vehicle a ninimum distance of 15 miles then letting it cool down completely. so in 3 days the pcm will have ran all of the obd2 tests and when it sees it pass it will turn off the mil lamp.pcm=powertrain control module.mil=malfunction indicator lamp.

Albie, that only means that the gas cap is not the problem... We that many miles, I have a suspicion that your check engine issue will be the oxygen sensors on your exhaust between the exhaust manifold prior to the catalyst converter.
