Hey all,

New member here, we added a Granetelli(sp) Air Mass sensor to our AirRaid cold air intake, I disconnected the Negative battery cable before starting work. When I rehooked up the cable all the truck settings were still there. Did I need to also disconnect the Positive cable to reset the trucks computer so it can learn the new settings?? Thanks.

Welcome Thump & Butter. I'm not sure what you're asking but if you're talking about the PCM (ecm) I don't think it's going to "learn" anything on its own. You have to program it with a programmer. If I'm not understanding your question please elaborate what you're trying to do.

Let me elaborate a little on what I'm saying. Installing the new air mass sensor isn't going to change the basic programming of the computer. The sensor is suppose to send some different signals to the computer & it will adjust to the new signals. That's as I understand it. Hope this helps.

Hey Jonahs,

When the mechanic put the AiRaid air cleaner on the truck he disconnected the Battery and he said it reset the computers in the truck so it would recalibrate itself with the new air system. The Grantelli instructions said to disconnect both neg and pos battery connections but I just did the neg while I worked to do the same thing but the truck did not loose any radio settings or anything else by the looks of it. Maybe I miss understood the mechanic when he did it the first time. I will be down that way tomomorrow and ask him to clairfy it.

The radio settings etc. are not controlled by the computer you're talking about. The PCM (engine) computer should learn the settings after you start the engine.

Thanks Jonahs,

I've been looking at the HP Tuners program for the H2 that is the one our Hummer Mech is recommending. We will get to test the Hummer tomorrow and the next day 100+ miles each way and will see what she does.

Hi Thumper and Buttercup!! Welcome
Jonahs is correct about computer relearning anything. If You had stock MAF when You put on new air intake that is what the MAF does is look at the volume of air going past sensors and adjust fuel ration. When You bought the Granitelli did You get the cold air intake calibrated one? It works much better and You can get some false codes with the MAF for stock intake on a cold air intake. I have run both for around 6 years on several rigs. The cold calibrated one is just as it suggests for more cold air than stock. I have never had to disconnect any cables although it is a good idea. The mechanic is going to do it more for liability reasons is My guess. As a rule when Your working around the fuel area it is safer not to have to contend with sparks from electrical. The only way I can see to manipulate is as Jonahs says with a programmer.
I have not upgraded MAF on My 05 H2 as Lingenfelter and the company I got My cold air intake from said it does not help much on the H2. With that being said by them I just have not done it. Having air/fuel ratio lights like Jonahs would really shed the light on that. I'm going to add the info center Jonahs designed to My rig and probably will get cold air MAF to see if it does anything while I can watch gauges.

Hey RLTAZH2,

I did get the Cold Air Intake calabrated one. I'm just making one change at a time and watching my records to see what each item does to the mpg. Time will tell. Thanks for the information.
