H3 Hummer is off the scale

The problem with the H3 is that when I try to fill it with gas it will not let me put gas in. Everytime I press the gas handle it pops in my hand like it is full. I can sometimes get about 25 cents at a time, but this takes forever to fill up.

So, I took it into the dealership and the receptionist told me that it may not be covered under the bumper to bumper warranty.

The reason is because "someone could have stollen gas and therefore broke it." I kindly explained to her that I have a lock on the gas cap and that there would be signs of tamper if someone broke in. She changed her tune a little bit. She said, I am not saying they will charge you but be prepared.

Well I am prepared NOT to pay. I have no idea how much it will cost to replace the gas tank and whatever fuel lines but with the labor I can bet it will be close to $1,000.

I know the new Ford Mustangs have this problem but has anyone heard of this with the H3 yet?

Even if there is problem with the truck, it doesn't seem likely that the whole tank would have to be replaced. Most likely the fuel filler neck if anything, which wouldn't be too costly. I assume this is at several different gas stations and pumps?

Hey H3 Hummer,

I also own a 2005 Mustang and had the same problem. I went to Mustang's forum and quite a few people had the same problem. I took my car to the dealer and they replace the original tank and filler neck with a new one. I haven't had any problems after that.

When my H3 was new, I had a problem like that once or twice but it's gone away.

Good luck, make them fix it!!! "You buy, they fix" that is what Dealer are for. Take avantage of the warranty while it lasts.

I had the same problem with the receptionist at my Dealership. I told her " you are not qualified to answer any technical questions about my H3 problem", also " Honey, you only qualified to answer phone calls or may be set up appts."

Hey Hummer Guy,

When they fixed my Mustang, they just replaced the whole thing (tank & filler neck).
And I know because, I saw the old one and saw when they received the new one from factory.

Why exactly are you taking the word of a receptionist over that of a Hummer service writer/service manager/certified technician? I know you folks up in Seattle are a bit nutty, but damn.

Wait until Monday and ask the service writer. Until then, keep trying different ways to get gas in the filler neck. Try pulling back the gas nozzle foreskin and see if you can half insert it into the filler neck. Or you could also put gas into a gas can and fill it that way.

Well, first: the receptionist is a fawking idiot! Why would you ask the receptionsist anyhow? Is she going to fix it for you too? Go talk to the service manager.

I had the same issue on my 03 H2 and my 05 SUT, The vent tube to the tank was the issue both times along with some sensor that was replaced in the tank on the 05. It's a fairly easy fix and was covered under warranty. The later took a day to get fixed.

Interesting...wonder if they tried just the neck first? I don't know too much about Mustangs, though. That's cool that they did it all under warranty.

I only talk to receptionists if they have big hooters.
Sounds like a kink somewhere, and if so, should be easy to fix. If the EVAP vent solenoid was bad, it would set a code P0446. However, when the fuel cap is removed, the system is vented to atmosphere.
Does WA state require those vapors recovery things on the nozzles of the fuel pumps?

I have had the H3 since June and never had the problem. I didn't talk to the service manager because I wasn't going to waste any more of my time. I wasn't going to complain to any one else because I wasn't and am not going to pay to have this fixed.

F5Fstop I think WA only requires those vapor recovery nozels in certain counties. I have had the problem at three different gas stations.

Also DRTYFN - I think I was talking to the "service advisor" I just didn't know the official term.

At least we can pump our own gas.
