Hi All,

Now that more of us have brought our H3's home, I was wondering if you would mind sharing what your paying in insurance? The reason I ask is that I went from a 2003 Chevy ZR2 Blazer (sticker @ 30,4070) to H3 Adventure (sticker at 33,714) and my insurance went from $1,300 year to 2,500 year? I figured a bump as the vehicle cost more and rates tend to go up every year, but close to double? (This is the only thing that changed, I didn't move, get a ticket..anything)

Whew!! I totally freaked out when I opened the policy renewal, glad to know that this is BS!

I have calls into a bunch of other places, Progessive is 1,500 per year if I pay in 6 month blocks...so I big difference.

I was also told that Hummer parts are harder to get so they do not get the same repair rate discounts as 'normal' vehicles? (This is AAA)? I give them that it isn't a huge production number, but it is a domestic vehicle that shares many common parts with other GM platforms...how hard can it be to get parts?

Thanks for the info guys!

Just logged into my Progressive account to get a quote and the H3 isn't even available on the site yet. Guess I will have to check into this a little more before I take delivery http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

Alot of insurance people mistake the Hummer as a lux price vehicle or give you the rate for the H1 or H2 because their info. is not updated. Make sure they have the correct model, if so switch that is just crazy.

Hi All,

Thanks for you swift replies! After talking to AAA a glitch was discoved, the credit rating. For some reason, my new credit rating hadn't been processed properly so I was pushed down to a level 2 discount instead of the level 7 I should have been at. This makes TOTAL sense, because if I miss paying my bill on time it MUST mean that I am speeding around and driving erratically! Seriously, it came down to a more reasonable $1,580 per year (10 payments).

Again, thanks for all the input!

Thats good news E. I have never understood what the hell your credit score has to do with the cost of insurance. I know people with AAA+++ credit with horrible driving records and people with **** credit with clean records. What does it matter other than if you might miss a payment or not http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

Mine actually went down. I was paying $128 per month for my 2001 Escape and now pay $100 per month for the new H3. The broker says that since nobody has crashed one or written one off yet that it gets a high rating. It also has a great crash rating and has never been stolen yet. Go figure....

My H3 is covered through State Farm. I pay $639.41 per 6 months for $500 deductible ($50 other than collision) and a couple discounts. I guess that isn't too bad.

My insurance rate is only 15% more that I was paying on my 2001 Isuzu Vehicross. Very reasonable, but USAA has very good insurance rates for retired military.

Sounds like that's what happened, probably somebody punching computer keys mis-categorized your H3 as a previous H1/H2 incarnation. The parts cost story is just blowing smoke by an agent looking for an easy out.

Have you tried TN Farm Bureau? I just moved to MI from TN and TNFB gave me the best rates on a jeep Wrangler and Corvette, both cars 1300 per year. Can't aay for a H3, but they might be worth calling.

As for the credit rating...it works for homeowners and cars, and the reason is, if you are in debt up to your ears, the stats show you are more likely to commit insurance fraud.

We traded in our 98 VW Jetta for the H3 and our insurance went up $1.33 per month.

That was with Allstate

Wow, seems like a very big differnece in rates. I'm hoping that the descrepancies are becuase the insurance guys have not yet figured out this vehicle. I'm shocked at some of these rates. I currently own two BMW's (and M3 and a Z3, the M3 is getting traded) both of which costs more than a loaded H3, and my total annual bill for both vehicles is around $1300 per year (My agent is Allstate, but they also insure my house and my boat which helps a bit on price). I have NEVER bought a vehicle and had the rates go down. They ALWAYS seem to get adjusted up just ever so much regardless of the price of the new vehicle, but I sure hope my H3 does not costs twice as much to insure as my M3. I would find it hard to belive that parts for a domestic car are much more scarce than are parts for a European car. I already know that the gas will cost more. My M3 takes premium gas, and I can drive all day at 90 mph on the highway and get 25 mpg, but the H3 taking regular gas loping along at 65 mph (getting an estimated 18mpg) will cost about 20% more for gas for a 500 mile road trip.

Count me in as one that has gone down...and by a huge amount too!

I'm with Allstate and just got rid of my Hyundai Tiburon for the H3 and am paying a cool $63 per month down from my $85 per month.

Allstate offers a SUV discount now and I have my home with them as well. I can't complain one bit!

I just got a quote from Progressive AND Geico... BOTH are quoting over $3000 a year! My driving record is completely clean (26 years old) and I have average credit.

I called Progressive and was told that the H3 info was correct, and I was not being charged the H1 or H2 price.

I have USAA and I added the H3 to my policy with my Jeep and Triumph and it runs $15 more than the Jeep every six months. ($536 per 6 months). that is with a $250 deductable and such. USAA has a good program going for those in the military. The share their dividends and each year I average $250 returned to me. I swear by them even though they have on occasion pissed me really off with stupid stuff.

That's interesting that a lot of your rates went up, and the fact all your rates are LOW!!!

I went from an 01 dodge stratus 80k miles (bluebook at about $4k) to an 06 h3 3 miles, priced at like $34k with options and my insurance rates dropped $540/year. I was expecting to pay way more per month.

I was paying $3420/year, now I only pay $2800. Oh yeah, that's with zero tickets/accidents/violations, and it's the lowest price I can find. I guess it's part of the joy of being 19.

Yes. Different states have different laws. Some are no-fault, some aren't. Some mandate certain PIP/liability/uninsured/medical payout levels some don't. Some people have a $100 deductible, some carry a $1000.

Why wouldn't credit rating matter? Actuarially, it's a quick and dirty representation of your degree of responsibility, as is age, marital status, gender, driving record, whether you own or lease the car, whether yuo own or rent your home, your degree of education, etc.

So for rate comparisons, you really need to talk to someone with at least the same vehicle, in the same state, with the same coverage levels, with the same gender, age and marital status if not credit score.

Otherwise, it really boils down to whether you get good service from a particular company.

BTW, I live in Iowa (a fault state), use progressive, carry a $500 deductible have average liability payouts and I pay $540/yr for an H2 and $410/yr for an 8yo Grand Prix.

I too am running with USAA and have to have no fault insurance and other crap coverages for Hawaii. My H2, Montero Sport and renters insurance cost me just under 1800 a year. The H2 is 750 p/yr the Montero Sport is 775 p/yr and the renters insurance is the rest. Pay more for the Montero Sport due to the fact that it doesn't have as many safety and theft protection systems as the H2.

I"m getting ready to write a check for an H3 with in the next 2-3 months.depending on witch I choose 2006 or 2007.

So far I haven't seen anyone fron the Garden State...New Jersy or Joisey as we say post there yearly rate.

But..I can tell you that since we are the Highest Auto Insurance Rate and Property Insurance rate state in the USA I expect to be Royally Screwed..!!

Since this will be my first H3 And new Vehical in many years I am not looking forward to dealing with the insurance companies.

I plan on driving my H3 to work which is 9 miles one way and using it all the time. I can only guess how far they will insert the tire iron where the sun don't shine.

As of now I drive Classic 1973 Thunderbird in excellent condition. The car is used to go to and from work a total 18 miles round trip.I cary no Collision on this car and pay $750.00 a year.

So. I think i'll get on the horne after reading thses post's and see just how much Vasoline I;m gonna need.. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Even though the 73 is classic..I use it for work there by negating the Classic insurance..

I pay $625 per year with State Farm. That's no deductibles, maximum coverage, multi-line and accident free. I get a break because they insure my other car, house, boat, and a million dollar umbrella policy for all. Plus, I only drive the H3 about 6,000 miles per year.
