From what I understand, you should be able to purchase one from out of state and brought to CA however check with your local DMV for their requirements then verify that the Hummer you're looking at qualifies.

you'll be fine, when you get the rig to CA take it and get it smog'd.
Then take that paperwork with you to the DMV along with your proof of insurance and a check book to to pay for the registration.
Oh and don't get cute and have the seller indicate the sales price thousands of dollars less then you are actually pay for the rig on the bill of sale (this only applies if you buying from a private party) If you're buying from a dealer out of state just bring the paper work they give you to the DVM.

O.C, your right to be concerened, CA. can be a real pian. I have brought trucks (big trucks) in from Indiana, Illinois, Washington and Oregon. The only thing the D.M.V. has wanted to see is the check in the California Emission box.
I would imagine any vehicle made now days are 50 state legal but no harm in checking .

Someone tell me if I'm wrong but....what ever is written in to the purchase/sale amount on the pink slip/transfer certificate is going to be considered the amount you bought it for. Private party only of course.

yes,
they have a computer print out of similar vech's, what they've sold for, for any given year, so if the price on the bill of sale is $1.00 they'll just pick the norm and charge accordingly. I'd guess if you went to the trouble of getting the sale notorized you might get around it. It's fine to shave a few thousand and but just keep it in the ball park.
