I received this e-mail from an anthroplogy major doing research on Hummer owners:

Quote:
Dear ----,

My name is Anne Thayne. I am an Anthropology major and senior at Bucknell
University, doing summer research on national and regional Hummer clubs. I
would like to learn how and when Hummer clubs developed and what attracts
Hummer owners to join, and am interviewing leaders and members of Hummers clubs
in the American mid-Atlantic region.

This is a student independent research project, conducted under faculty
guidance, and strictly academic. I'll be presenting my final material in an
academic setting, such as anthropology lunches at my university or at academic
conferences for anthropologists. My university sets set a high standard for
respecting privacy and confidentiality in these projects.

I wondered if you would be willing to talk with me about your organization and
perhaps allow me to attend a Hummer Club event. My interviews will normally
take about half an hour, and can be conducted in person or by telephone,
whichever would be most convenient to you. An in-person interview would take
place in a nearby coffee house, and the drinks are on me. After my project is
complete, I will be sending a brief summary of my findings to each participant.

If you have further questions, I would be happy to call you and further explain
my project before you make your decision. Just let me know, by e-mail or by
phone, what telephone number I should use and when it would be convenient to
place a call to you.

If you are willing to participate in my project, just reply to this email with a
convenient time to reach you and phone number to call, and I?ll be in touch
with you soon. If it?s easier, you can also reach me at the number below.

Many thanks for your time and attention. I look forward to speaking with you.

Yours truly,

Anne Thayne

I prefer to think it's because we're such a highly evolved group.
