Has anyone installed a power break controller for their large trailer on the H3? Any problems w/ the install? Any pics? Which model would you suggest?

I have the towing package -- and it looks like there should be some adapter that plugs into the 7 prong connector -- but I can not find the junction box or the wires -- anybody have an idea?

The trailering package for $150.00 is the 7 to 4 pin adapter and a power outlet adapter - see the Hummer website
Don't waste the money though, you can get the adapter at any auto parts store.
I don't have any clue about adding brake controllers

I'm still not clear where the brake controller adapter plugs into w/ the H3. My dealer was unclear and the truck seems to be too new for any of the OEMs to know....

Welllll........ I just tried to look on the Canyon/Colo. platforms to see if there was hint from them and they don't show a harness or any wiring for a controller.
My stuff might be dated and might be wrong but it might not have a harness to plug into.

Thanks for the info Paragon -- it seems odd it would have no harness -- where does the cable from the 7 prong plug go???

It doesn't show that in the wiring diagrams either.
Try to look under the back and make sure if that there is a Blue wire going to the 7 pin connector.
If it's there look for a loose blue wire under the dash or in the engine bay.

Here's a shot under my steering wheel. Hummer Customer Care said that my towing package did not come with the hookup under the steering wheel, and that I would have to hardwire it. That seems really silly, although I can not locate where I would connect the break controller too -- so it looks like I will be running a wire to the 7 pin outlet.

Ok, I'm not getting anywhere. I don't know how the wiring is done in the rear. Maybe check with f5fstop to see if he can find it on the H3 service info.
BTW, what is that red or orange wire that looks cut

Have you found how to install the controler using the quick connect harness? I to want to install one without having to cut and splice. I havent located the connection yet but they surley have one since there is a 7 pin plug installed with the factory hitch option.

Check the wires near the light for the footwell. I think I saw some wires labeled for the trailer stuff when I was installing my CB.

I do think that will work. I had looked under the dash but was looking more to the left where the wire loom came through the firewall. The wires are clearley labled and should be able to wire the controler directley to them, they are labled as follows. black (ground), red (AuxB+), light blue (Brake signal), dark blue (Trailer Brakes). I must make sure that the brake signal wire is on the cold side (ON only when the brake pedal is depressed) and that the red Aux wire has a circuit breaker in line. Thanks for the info it go to show four eyes are better than two.

You got it. The H3 is supposed to be wired for the brake controller and a trailer hitch wiring, regardless if you get the hitch package from the plant.
For a hitch they are up under the rear bumper in a taped bundle.

I did it. It was easy found the four wires clearley labled got a higher end controler because i could spend the labor charges on it. It took about 20 minutes to install. Save your money and do it your self.

Hey "Grayh3",
I found the wires. They were located in right side between gas pedal and back of Stereo system. My questions is what is the best place to install this brake controller. I understand that they required to be installed horizontal position. Or show us a picture of brake controller installed.
Thanks

Depending on which type you use makes the differance. I used the proportional type. Tekonsha Prumus. Its a higher end controller but it affordes much more latitude in mounting and is the easiest to set up and and fine tune. I mounted mine on the right side of the steering column so as to keep it out of the way as you enter you H3. Also I am right handed and it makes for easy reach to fine tune Most controlers have a mounting range of areond zero to 70 degrees. I found a load of info at http://www.brakecontroler.com. Hope this helps
